On April 9, we honor the heroes who fought for the freedom and state independence of Georgia.
On this day in 1989, the Soviet Army dispersed tens of thousands of people demanding independence on Rustaveli Avenue during a peaceful demonstration, killing 21 people. On the second anniversary of April 9, 1989, in 1991, the Supreme Council of Georgia, under the leadership of Zviad Gamsakhurdia, adopted the Act of Independence of Georgia. April 9 was recorded in the recent history of Georgia as a day of tragedy and at the same time the restoration of Georgia’s independence.
Thank you for your contribution to the restoration of state independence!
